“I have been reluctant for a long time, but Instant Messaging has proven to be an excellent tool to increase a company’s productivity”, said Bob Hayward, Vice President at Gartner, at last week’s Symposium ITxpo in Sydney.
“I have always found it rude to call someone, ask a question, and immediately hang up. With Instant Messaging, this is totally acceptable, and it saves a lot of time.”
Gartner’s recommendation to companies that are thinking about implementing a system for Instant Messaging (IM), is to develop their own system. By doing this, many of the security risks when using public IM networks, such as MSN and AOL, are avoided.
